Good post. But I believe that diet is the root of the problem, and so much so that the government should not concern itself with exercise except to give it lip service. Companies would be better off with a cafeteria serving healthy food for lunch than having a gym, far better off. Changing habits is never an easy task. Better to focus on one than two. And the one that really counts is diet. Your idea of taxing the "luxury food" while subsidizing the health food is spot on. And subsidizing or starting a healthful fast food chain to compete with McDonald's et al. would also be a great idea.
That is a lot of people who dont watch the news! Idiots.
Hmmm....I think I would be better at playing the part of the Roman soldier. But I think they left out the part of " member of vengeful Jewish mob", that could be a fun part to play too!
I agree that the competition is valid....once you get past the part that Airbus technically shouldn't even exist and won't be hurt if they lose. Well, I cant say I am an expert about Airbus. All I can say is that some industries require protection and government help. I suppose I could make similar complaints about NASA. And Boeing wont be hurt for losing the bid. I can assure you the U.S. government will NOT allow Boeing to go down, no matter how much money it takes. And if it needs U.S. government assistance at any time, I will bet it will get it. I have to wonder if there really is a difference. I didn't understand what you were saying about Airbus and US taxes. What I meant was that if Airbus were run with U.S. taxes, then the U.S. government choosing Airbus would look like bid rigging, just as if Microsoft chose its own subsidiary under the guise of an open contract bid. Since Airbus has no affiliation with the U.S. government or U.S. taxes, its all the same. I take it we are in agreement about everything but the make-up of Airbus. I am not really fit to argue that.
Clinton said it was unfair and uncivil to question his patriotism just because he didn't go to Vietnam. And he was right. I got your point. I knew you were not backing up the statements. I was just pointing out how ridiculous they are. Now he is using the same uncivil words his rivals did to accuse Obama of being unpatriotic. THATS what I call two-faced. If Sezwho is correct *almost* yes. Clinton's words might be accusatory *maybe* but they are not the same, not by a long shot. The attacks on Clinton were not nearly so uncertain. It takes a fair bit of interpreting to see an attack here, and retort is easy: "I think it would be a great thing if we had an election year where you had two people who loved this country and were devoted to the interest of this country. Then this will be a great year Bill. Obama v.s. McCain. Your wish will be granted. I dont find this to be two-faced given the lack of ferocity. If anything, Bill is being more fair than others. We cant very well expect him to just sit down and shut up. He has to say something.
but a vote against one very angry black man. And he is angry. Whew boy, is he angry. Angry? Rev Wright is angry. This advisor is angry. Obama himself? No, I dont think so. Its both funny and sad that Obama's enemies have to resort to going after those around Obama and cant really assail Obama himself. Now we have angry by association. Sad. Anyway, I think it will be an angry white woman you get to vote against.
And as I said earlier, he could not very well just ignore the black church and get anywhere at all. Oh, and certainly could not appear to be remotely rejecting it either, not until he was clearly forced to do so, and now he has been forced to reject Wright's statements, and no one can blame him. I just hope everyone will wake up to these realities. Not because I want Obama so bad, its just that our public discourse is pathetically stoopid.
Well, I think it's nutty. That is my opinion. What I am trying to tell you is that it is not ALL THAT nutty if you think about it. But its not the mean of the probability chart, sure. but I don't believe that any credible scientist or researcher has ever suggested that AIDS is a man-made virus. Nor have they said with certainty that it isnt. We just dont know. Leave it to a man of the cloth to fill in that blank just as wildy as he can. His version of events is at least more believable to me than God sent AIDS to punish gays, and how many religious kooks spouted that? I will take them to task more than Wright any day. This new virus came out of seemingly nowhere to infect near half the populations of some African countries in like 25 years. That already sounds nutty. Its unprecedented. Such an exteme situation just might have an extreme beginning. It just might. Wright believes too much in that extreme beginning. That is all that is nutty. And in the grand scheme of things, that little bit of nutty is pretty common. I have no idea what Obama believes. I was not clear, but that point was addressed to all. Its all that really matters here. Obama has rejected the statements. Its truly all he can or could have done. He could not very well stand up and reject the guy's statements BEFORE it became news. That would be clear political suicide. The voters are not clever enough to comprehend such a nipping at the bud, and so would misinterpret it. Thus he rejects it all now. His senatorial past gives us proof that his words are true. Its the best evidence we will ever have. And as I said earlier, he could not very well just ignore the black church and get anywhere at all.
actually China was prepared a knockout blow to Tibetans independence movement, we just needa pretext and they drew the first blood so the conseqences will be predictable! No idea why this post is allowed to stand, but I think if you want to point to "first blood", you need to a little further back than last week. Duh.
A japanese pm telling China what to do? He didnt. Read past the headline. He hopes the issue will be resolved before any Chinese official visits, and I will tell you why: If the Chinese have an official visit before the issue is resolved, Japan will be seen to be favoring the Chinese in Tibet. If the Japanese decline the visit, they will be seen as snubbing China. The PM does not want to be stuck with that catch 22, unfair as it is, so he expresses his hope for a quick resolution, possibly hoping the Chinese will take the hint to not even think about a visit before its all resolved and save Japan the trouble.
But bringing up the concept of "competition" when Airbus was started by taxpayer money and is still partially funded by taxpayer money is a bit silly. But not U.S. taxpayer money, so you dont even have the possibility of the government favoring its own arm. I am sure U.S. government ties to Airbus are far less strong than to say, Halliburton. And in a field such as this, it cant be said that the private sector has some sort of disadvantage compared to the public sector in another country. If anything, its probably the opposite. The competition is valid.
Diseases on cherry trees spreading Too much unprotected contact with humans? Its a romantic time of the year!
"Who are the bad guys?" #6 and #7 on your list, Z. I note that number 6, Saddam is dead, and has in essense, given up. That leaves only al-Quaida. GWB is not worried about al-Quaida's head, OBL. And I cannot believe that ALL this unrest is caused by al-Quaida alone. You are missing something in your list of bad guys. Something enormous. The bad guys haven't given up yet. Exactly. And there are bad guys on both sides. None have won and none have given up. I cant say I have the perfect answer to the $#!Tstorm that invading Iraq created, but I have to admit a withdrawal is compelling. A lot more compelling than "stay the course".
The guy is a nut. That's my opinion. I base that on what he said about the AIDS virus being invented by the U.S. Please tell us where the AIDS virus comes from. I have been itching to know. Anyway, I think you need to realize that the U.S. government has so many organizations in it that they cant possibly maintain one coherent policy. The CIA has even been described as rogue. It is possible that the AIDS virus was engineered. But yes,to make statements with any certainty as to that fact, let alone statements with certainty as to the people and their motivations based on that previous uncertainty, is stretching and can be seen as nutty. But it is possible, AND we are talking about a man of faith here trying to get people worked up, and this kind of nuttiness is par for the course, and probably more so at the black chuches. The wiser pastors just hold their tongue, but men of faith need no proof where there is doubt. We all know this. The current state of affairs, with AIDS widespread in Africa is plenty proof for them. Anyway, the real question is not about Wright, its is whether Obama believes these nutty statements. I doubt it. And if Obama or anybody is to leave every church when a pastor says something he disagrees with, then I am afraid Obama and EVERYBODY better start worshipping at home. Anywho, I have said this before, but you cant have Obama without the church. If Obama had ignored the power of the church and opted for the "pure" route, there is no way any of us would even know his name. He did what he had to do, as an aspiring black politician, to get ahead. He had no real choice in America, none, and its because he appears black, no matter his mixed parentage. If you hold affiliation with the black church against him, you are simply supporting keeping the black man down. Ask yourself what Obama believes. Ask yourself if he has the sense to surround himself with sensible people for the sake of his political office. Since I have not heard a thing about any bills submitted or voted for or any action which would have given Wright or other nutty pastors, black or otherwise, some sort of special power over our government or politics, then I have to think Obama is NOT an automaton of Wright and his chuch. So give the man a break. Besides, he doesnt qualify as one of those angry black Americans with slave ancestors any more than I do. He may sypathize, also as I do, but he is not them.
A case of the liberals copying the Neo-cons? Sounds like my alter ego Zorro Zombie, only he is tongue in cheek, and Zorro is not a liberal. Well I dont they are being tongue in cheek. American companies did not succeed in their bid. Failing to perform due to competition is something only a sore loser whines about. When those spoiled rotten U.S. aircraft companies shape up, they will get the next bid. I doubt Boeing is feeling any pain yet anyway. McCain obviously did not have France specifically in mind when he supported legislation to widen the bidding. Either you want an international economy or you dont. And you take the good and the bad of that choice and shut up.
If storks deliver babies, who delivers baby storks?
Bill Clinton, as the General reported, had to face almost identical attacks about how he "ran away" from Vietnam during the 70's to Russia. He claimed that it was unfair and not civil to make such claims. Uh, yeah, it IS unfair and uncivil to LIE. The man was in Russia for how long? The duration of Vietnam? Uh, no. He did not need to run away from Vietnam. He was not eligible for the draft. He was a university student. And he protested American involvement in Vietnam, a clear stance and the right position. Of course he did not run head long into that fool hardy conflict. Compare that to a half-a$$ed position like joining up for service in a capacity that will never get close to Vietnam and not even showing up for most of that. And dont even get me started on the Swiftboat Liars. And he was in Russia for what? Days? A week?
Everyone try to remember that this was one of Obama's advisors and not Obama himself. You all know what advisor's do right? They advise. That's it. I am sure Obama will reject this guy's stupid "advice" and his loud mouth on this. ZZ
"Obama will emerge victorious" The polls showing McCain ahead of both Hillary and Obama must be wrong. No need to take Zorro Zombie's cheerleading seriously, much like any other kind of cheerleading. The real Zorro thinks Hillary will win. But then, while right and wrong might be clear to the real Zorro, the machinations of his fellow man certainly arent. Zorro is trying tho, and Zombie Zorro, well he is certainly trying.
Say what??
Richardson has made the wise choice. This promises unity among blacks and hispanics, and more unity to come. ZZ
Obama is the anti-racist candidate. He is the bridge to unity. Go Obama Go! ZZ
Obama Wright has said Cone wrote I take back what I said about guilt by association. Three black men. I guess they all look the same to you. ZZ
Obama is the candidate of hope. Obama is a uniter. Stick a fork in the 2008 election. Its done. Obama will emerge victorious! Hooray for America! ZZ
the very purpose of the Olympics is to put politics aside and to let the athletes rule the day. Another purpose has taken root in the Olympics, and that is to make a heck of a lot of money. And the original purpose is suffering for it. Betzee did not suggest the althletes be held back; she suggested no one go as a spectator. I assume a big reason is so that China will profit less.
