TOKYO Japan plans to appoint Yukio Takasu, a minister of the Japanese Embassy in the United States, to succeed Japan's U.N. Ambassador Kenzo Oshima, government officials said Wednesday.
Takasu, 60, who joined the Foreign Ministry in 1969, has been in the current post since August 2006. Takasu was formerly chief of the ministry's now-defunct Multilateral Cooperation Department. Takasu has also served as Japan's ambassador in charge of human security, science and technology cooperation and U.N. reform.
