McDonald's McCafe coffee shops debut in Japan

McDonald's McCafe opens in Yebisu Garden Place.

TOKYO — McDonald's McCafe coffee shops debuted in Japan on Wednesday, joining a coffeehouse battle among Starbucks, Tully's and others. McDonald's Co (Japan) Ltd opened seven McCafe shops in Tokyo and eight in neighboring Chiba, Kanagawa, Saitama and Ibaraki prefectures as well as Hyogo Prefecture in western Japan.

The menu for McCafe in Japan is all original, according to CEO Eiko Harada. It includes dripped coffe and espresso beverages starting at 170 yen, 15 bakery goods "Bakery 100" for 100 yen each, curry and blue sweet potato pies, which will go on sale on September 14, for 180 yen each, monthly special "Doubutsu pan" (animal-shaped bread) for 260 yen, pumpkin potage and rich vegetables & beans soup for 390 yen each, and McDeli for 290 to 330 yen in Tokyo. The prices vary depending on the region.

i guess that is there gimmick. it will get the people that dont want to pay money for a cup of coffee. starbuck and tulleys is quite pricey. i go there sometimes and i dont even like coffee. it is just everyone else does!!!

i mean MOS burger is sooo much better but the prices are ridiculous for a little burger. i have to get 2 burgers at MOS to fill me up.

Well, here's another new place

I take back my comments from the other post, this McCafe is a good thing. It will help us single out people with absolutely no taste at all. Anyone enjoying an espresso in a McDonalds isn't worth a minute of my time. I'll take Segafredo or Excelsior any day over this waste.

in J-land. Tim Hortons? It took some googling to find that one.
Espressos are good for avoiding sleepiness, I guess. Though one once in a while...
