Patrick Swayze reportedly dying of cancer

NEW YORK — Actor Patrick Swayze has been given only a few weeks to live, according to reports from the United States. A representative for the actor told U.S. website Page Six that he is suffering from pancreatic cancer that was diagnosed more than a month ago.

Swayze, 55, has reportedly been flying his private plane to Stanford University's Palo Alto cancer center to receive chemotherapy treatment.

It is believed the radical treatment has not managed to shrink the tumor and it may also have spread to other organs.

Swayze starred as Johnny Castle in the 1987 movie "Dirty Dancing" before going on to star in "Ghost," "Road House" and "Point Break."

In 1991, People magazine named him the Sexiest Man Alive.

He was born in Texas in 1952 and married wife, actor Lisa Niemi, in 1975.

He seems comfortable with who he is and has a stable life style despite being inside the Hollywood machine. I wish him and his family well.

Yeah, he always seemed like a "down to earth guy," moreso than most other movie stars. Best of luck to him.

OMG! He's already 55? I can't believe it! He was only 37 in Ghost and looked younger. OMG! Ghost was made 18 years ago?! Seems like yesterday...

"given only a few weeks to live"

I hope the docs are wrong.

Patrick has a very limited amount of disease, and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far.

I'm not sure what the true story is here but pancreatic cancer is one of the most deadly.

...you would do well to read the link posted by helter_skelter above.

If you had bothered to read it, you would have no need to write the crap you did in your current story!

Pancreatic cancer is the most deadly of all cancers to get. Only 3% of sufferers live beyond 3 years. I wish Patrick well in his fight.

I've had 3 friends who have died from Pancreatic cancer. My last friend who passed away from it was given 6 to 9 months. He passed away within 3 months.

The one before him died in two weeks of discovery.

Pancreatic cancer is undetectable until it's got hold. Some recover. Some don't, unfortunately. <:-)

My mother passed away with this last year, from diagnosis to death was 6 weeks.

Pavarotti died within about 12 months.

Patrick is younger than either of them, but if I were him I would start doing all those things I wished I had done when I was younger - sooner rather than later.

As others have said, the mortality rate is virtually 100% within 5 years of diagnosis, even with the best medical care in the world.
